Company Profile
Niki' company is today among the leading traditional sweets processor on the island. The company is headed by Mrs Niki Agathocleous, who carries with her a twenty year experience in making sweets using traditional recipes. She is supported by a work force of 15 local women all experienced in the art of processing fruit for making a broad range of preserved traditional sweets. The processing unit is based at the picturesque village of Agros in the Pitsilia region at an altitude of 1100m and its operations comply with all European standards of hygiene verified by the HACCP certification.
The company is the leader in the production of traditional sweets and produces a broad range that includes spoon sweets, fruit marmalades, soutzoukos and other traditional products some of which are also produced from certified organic fruit. Its range also includes traditional sweets with no added sugar suitable for diabetics and for people on diet.
Many of its products are stocked in shops and supermarkets all around Cyprus but the full range is available at the company’s own shop at Agros village. Exports are also a significant part of NIKI’s sweets with its main markets being the UK, France, the USA, Australia and Japan.
Mrs Niki welcomes visitors at the company’s premises where guided tours are daily available introducing visitors to the art of traditional sweets making. The shop is the place to taste and purchase sweets, choosing from the broad range of NIKI’s products. We particularly suggest the unique (to Agros village) rose pedals spoon sweet which is made from locally harvested, hand picked, wild rose flowers.
NIKI’s Traditional Sweets – Preserving Tradition
For many centuries, spoon sweets have represented the warm welcome of housewives both in the towns and villages of
Cyprus
. Mrs Niki is keen on preserving the tradition to this day, insisting on using only pure ingredients with no preservatives or additives and maintaining the home made habits in a ‘small is beautiful’ style of production. In this small but busy workshop, she manages the production of more than twenty different types of spoon sweets. Marmalades, jams, soutzoukos rolls and carob based products complete the range of traditional Cypriot sweet products. Paying a visit at NIKI’s workshop can give an on-sight confirmation of the simple processes involved and the unique traditional and natural products available.
