Company Profile

SEDIGEP, is the island’s biggest a co-operative growers' union, founded in 1964 for the purpose of packing, marketing and exporting the agricultural produce of its members.  Since 2004 it has been transformed into a Producers Organisation under the name CYPROFRESH and its legal status has changed into a limited liability company.  It is primarily engaged in the packing and exporting of citrus fruit and table grapes which are marketed under the brand names of CYPRINA and TASTE ME.  The company operates one central and two regional packing plants as well as 15 seasonal stations.  It has 1,600 member growers from all over Cyprus, around 30 full time employees and a current turnover of around US$ 25-30 million.

Over the past 40 years, SEDIGEP has gained the expertise in the citrus business and has responded successfully to the challenges, needs and changing market conditions of the world citrus industry. CYPROFRESH is equipped with modern technology machines for sorting, grading and packing citrus and its main packing house is BRC accredited. All members-growers have been certified and operate within the EUREPGAP scheme and guidelines.

CYPROFRESH exports account for roughly 55% of the total exports of citrus originating from Cyprus.  The main citrus varieties traded are Lemons, Valencia and Shamouti oranges, grapefruit and the easy-peeler variety of Mandora.  The main citrus export destinations are the European Union, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia and the main citrus season spans from October to June.

A recent business expansion relates to the diversification into the potato international trade, where the company has entered with the high quality Cyprus potatoes. Though new in this trade, CYPROFRESH is gradually building on its supplier base, one that is currently approaching 50 growers planting varieties such as the Spunta, Diamant, Nicola, Charlotte, Nanabelle, Marfona, Cara and M. Piper. Organic potatoes are a new product that is due to be launched in the market in the season 2007-2008. Additionally, an estimated amount of 500 tons of organic Sultana grapes are due for export this season.

The leading Citrus Business from Cyprus

Being the biggest company in the sector, its unique relation of trust with its members/growers gives SEDIGEP the possibility to invest continuously in modernisation and to adopt state of the art technology and procedures. It also gives the company the required muscle to negotiate volume deals in foreign markets while maintaining the demanded consistency in quality. As recognition of its performance, SEDIGEP has received in the last three consecutive years the Export Award for Agriculture from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
