Company Profile

With a forty year family tradition, Mr Pambos is an experienced honey bee producer, based at the picturesque village of Kalopanayiotis. The village is located in the Marathasa valley at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level, approximately 70 kilometres from both Nicosia and Limassol. The area has been known since ancient times for its spa springs and its famous medieval Monastery of Saint John Lampadistis. The whole Marathasa valley, from the hilltop of Prodromos down to the citrus plains of Morfou and Zodia is packed with an array of wild flowering plants that attract honey bees during their blossom period.

Marathasa honey bees are fed on the wild flowers and aromatics found across the valley, ranging from the wild sage, cistus and sumach flowering bushes (cistus ladanifer and rhus coriaria respectively) found at Prodromos Mountains to thyme and the citrus flowering groves situated at the lower valley plains.

Honey with minimum processing for a high nutritional value

Mr Pambos is a professional, average sized bee producer with an estimated annual capacity of 10 tons of natural honey. He insists on giving the minimum processing to his honey aiming to provide the market with a product of high nutritional value that can be appreciated by selected consumers who can realize the value of unprocessed honey that ultimately turns into a thick and creamy paste, as a natural honey should do. His 'Marathasa' honey is distributed to selected retail shops around Cyprus and minor exports do take place, although volumes are just enough to meet the high end of the local market. Three types of natural honey are produced namely thyme, orange and polyflora, all obtained from bee hives that are continuously moved within the Marathasa valley depending on the flowering season of particular plants.
