PIPIS Farm Ltd was established in 1975 in Kokkinotrimithia, a village on the outskirts of Nicosia, as a small family business by the late Nicholas Pipis, a refugee family man. The sole activity of the farm was the breeding, slaughter and distribution of chickens to small number of grocery stores in the area. The taste and quality of the chickens were quickly made widely known and sought after. In time the small farm continued growing and upgrading. The first big organized farm was established in 1989 in Kokkinotrimithia and was run and supported by the children of the Pipis family. The continuing growth of the farm was subsequently very impressive and with the takeover of the management by Christos Pipis and his brothers, strong foundations where placed which put the company on the front line in this field of business. The Company applies modern farming systems that not only meet, but exceed European standards. Simultaneously, a large investment is made in modern technology slaughter, cooling and packing achieved significant improvement in quality and hygiene of meat.
In 2003, Pipis Farm Ltd acquires the global health certificate recognized processes HACCP, and in 2005 the Company moves its operations in a bright new chicken farm in the same area, which is considered to be the most modern in the region. PIPIS Farm Ltd by now established a top positioning in preference with significant market shares and with a distribution network covering the whole of Cyprus. In 2008, it acquired the ISO 22000 certificate on the Management of Quality and Food Safety, while the Company proceeds with the implementation and application of environmental systems for both the EMAS slaughter house as well as on the farms.
Experience has taught us that when a chicken breeds and grows in healthy conditions, protected from diseases; it does not need drugs and antibiotics. As a result, the meat is tastier, smoother and healthier. Therefore, our daily preoccupation is to preserve health and living conditions for rearing chickens with our modern methods such as:
- This means preventing and substantially reducing diseases caused when different ages of chickens living in the same area.
- For years now the company applies controlled air conditioning system which ensures optimal conditions for heating and air conditioning appropriate for each age.
The manufacture of animal feed made in our factory allows us a better control of raw materials to ensure perfectly healthy diet.
To prevent transmission of microbes in poultry houses all entrances sanitized and controlled effectively. Also be disinfected areas between farms housing different ages to avoid any disease transmission between them.
Prevention is always better than cure. Bio security measures applied by the company, aimed at prevention and effective removal of disease from chickens.
MODERN SLAUGHTER HOUSE
Since 2005, PIPIS farm moved to its new ultra modern slaughter house, thus improving considerably the quality of its products. It is the largest chicken farm in Cyprus, and the first to have automated slaughter, removal of offal, boning, cutting, cleaning and cooling systems. The entire process of slaughtering and packing has an automatic control of hygiene and also monitored by the specially trained health supervisor of the Company.
The cooling process at temperatures 0-4° C completely eliminates the germs before they enter the chicken packaging. This effectively eliminates potential spoilage of meat and increased length of stay in the supermarket fridge. The process also ensures that the chicken comes in the package clean, no water, blood and bacteria. The production of slaughter house now amounts to 6000 chickens per hour.
Warehouses and cold rooms are designed so as to ensure maximum safety and hygiene for the products to be loaded and transported to the consumer in the safest way. Their capacity exceeds 2000 cubic meters and the equipment temperature control system allows even remote control. Finally, the load distribution of cars is done by machines and processes that meet all requirements of ISO.
The Company has a modern and well organized distribution network consisting of more than 20 vehicles in order to respond immediately to customer needs. All vehicles have the latest cooling refrigerators to maintain the products during delivery and until it reaches the consumer. The distribution network is covering the whole of Cyprus and ensures the company's customers significant advantages such as:
